Vaccinia of the conjunctival sac.

چکیده
SINCE the introduction of vaccination as a therapeutic measure in 1796, between 200 and 300 cases of accidental infection of the eyelids, conjunctiva, or cornea have been reported. Doubtless more have remained unreported or unrecognized. In some cases the edges of the eyelids alone were involved, in others the conjunctival sac was involved, either primarily or secondarily from the eyelids. Corneal involvement is stated by various authors to occur in from 10 to 30 per cent. of cases, in some instances with dire result to the eyes. Ocular infection by vaccinia may occur in two ways: (i) by auto-inoculation of the eye from a vaccination pustule elsewhere in the body. These run a more favourable course than the second type. (ii) by infection of the eyes, in such people as mothers and nursemaids, by contamination from a case of recent vaccination.

The effect of Ophthalmic Patch on Conjunctiva of Neonates under Phototherapy
Objective Conjunctivitis is a common disease in neonates. Several bacterial and viral infectious agents may cause it. Tear circulation and blinking has protective effects from bacterial colonization in the conjuntival sac. Reduced blinking increases the possibility of bacterial conjunctivitis. We studied the effect of eye patches on bacterial colonization of the conjunctival sac. Methods In 1...

PURPOSE To compare the conjunctival, lacrimal sac, and nasal flora cultures and conjunctival normalization time following external (EX-), endoscopic (EN-), and transcanalicular multidiode laser (TC-) dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) and to evaluate the relationship between culture positivity and surgical success. We further performed antibiotic sensitivity analyses for lacrimal sac culture samples. ...

متن کاملIncreasing ofloxacin resistance of bacterial flora from conjunctival sac of preoperative ophthalmic patients in Japan.
PURPOSE To examine the in vitro resistance to ofloxacin of preoperative bacterial isolates from the conjunctival sac of Japanese patients. METHODS The database of bacterial flora cultured preoperatively from the conjunctival sac of 1455 Japanese patients (1455 eyes) between 1995 and 1999 was reviewed retrospectively. RESULTS The incidence of resistance of isolates to ofloxacin in vitro incr...
